Exercise to Inspire Health in Your Children

When we picture our family growing up, we picture our children being strong and healthy and in good shape. The picture them married to partners who are equally into fitness, strong capable and living long and healthy lives. We picture their children, our grandchildren, running and playing without a care in the world.

Leading By Example

However, if you are out of shape and you don’t take pride in being fit and healthy, how do you expect that your children will grow up to value things which you don’t? You need to lead by example, and the best way to do that is to begin getting healthier and setting an example for your children to follow. If your children see you moaning and whining and crying every time you eat an apple or a salad or go for a run, they will associate those things with negativity. However, if you suggest that your family go on a walk or run together and are excited and joyful about it, the children will make that association that it is a fun family activity and is something exciting.

Children and Exercise through Play

Children love to exercise. Every single day they voluntarily run like crazy on the playground at school playing games like hide and seek or tag. They jumped rope and skip and play soccer without hesitation. Playing is a form of exercise and we forget how fun it can be to expend energy in the way that our children do. During the hot summer months, it can be difficult to go outside and go for a run because of how hot and uncomfortable it is.
