Launch of Joint Learning Initiative on Children and HIV/AIDS.
10 October 2006
JLICA was officially launched on 10-11 October 2006 at a meeting held at the Foxhills Conference Facility, Surrey, UK. Led by Initiative Co-Chairs Agnès Binagwaho and Peter Bell, the launch meeting featured an intensive 2-day working agenda. JLICA Learning Group Co-Chairs, representatives of the Initiative’s founding partner organizations and prospective partners and donors attended the event. Participants worked towards consensus on JLICA’s research and advocacy agenda, the measurable outcomes the Initiative will achieve, and a timeline for delivering products. Learning Group Co-Chairs presented work plans and proposed membership lists for their groups. Strategies were developed for reinforcing synergies and avoiding overlap among the LGs and for maintaining JLICA’s focus on action and implementation. JLICA Co-Chair Dr. Agnès Binagwaho stated, “This meeting has brought us together as a motivated team and laid foundations for JLICA to achieve its goals. We come out with clear directions to build knowledge for action on children’s wellbeing.” A more detailed report on the JLICA launch meeting will be posted shortly on this site.
